A 30-year-old South Berwick man was taken into custody by police last week after fleeing from the scene of an incident where he allegedly threatened a family member with a knife.

After an hours-long search that began the morning of April 7, Robert Hundley was arrested and charged with criminal threatening and violating conditions of release, and was transported to York County Jail.

Police were called at 10:30 a.m. April 7 to a reported domestic disturbance on Warren Pond Road involving an adult male “who threatened a family member with a knife,” according to a press release posted the following day on the Police Department’s Facebook page.

When officers arrived, Hundley had escaped first to a nearby cabin, then fled into the woods. Officers called in the Southern Maine Special Response Team for assistance, and after several hours they located Hundley in the woods and took him into custody without incident.

The South Berwick police were also assisted by the Rollinsford Police Department, the South Berwick Fire Department, the York County Emergency Management Agency’s drone team, and the Sanford Regional Communication Center.

Asked on Friday whether Hundley was still in custody and whether anyone was injured, among other questions, Deputy Police Chief Scott Stephens responded, “The press release I sent out is all the information I will be providing on this.”
