The nominations of four town residents seeking one of the two open seats on the Town Council have been certified by Town Clerk Monique Ward: Jane Brekke, Ronald Fousek, Dorothy Maguire and Anthony Palazzetti.
Perrin Chick and incumbent Heather Holland have been certified to be on the ballot for two MSAD 35 Board of Directors seats.
Brekke, director of the Maine Chapter of the Sierra Club and former project coordinator for the Great Works Regional Land Trust, is a member of the South Berwick Conservation Commission. Fousek describes himself on LinkedIn as self-employed.
Maguire, a retired title examiner for Essex, Mass., is president of the Residents Council at Berwick Estates in South Berwick. Palazzetti, a retired assistant director of Field Operations for U.S. Customs and Border Protections in Boston, is on the South Berwick Planning Board and the Municipal Procurement Policy Ad Hoc Committee.
Chick, community engagement director at Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance in Augusta, will run unopposed for the one-year school board seat being vacated by Lisa Flynn. Holland, associate dean of Online Learning at Maine College of Art & Design in Portland, will run unopposed for a second three-year term on the board.
The Reporter will host the annual Meet the Candidates Night in October as an opportunity for local candidates, as well as state House of Representatives and Senate candidates, to introduce themselves and their priorities to the voters.
A date that will work for as many of the 12 candidates as possible is expected to be set next week.
