The process of filling the position of town manager will begin with hiring a company to help with the search and is expected to result in interviews by August.
The Town Council is “motivated to move quickly” in its search, according to council Vice Chair Mallory Cook.
As of July 6, the council will review applications from consulting firms to assist in the candidate search for a new town manager. Discussion of the applicants will take place at the council’s July 14 meeting, with a final selection of a candidate-recruitment firm July 28.
Interviews with recommended town manager applicants will then begin “in mid to late August,” according to Cook.
In other business on June 23:
- The council finalized changes to the town’s parking ordinance, which will now ban on-street parking on either side of Paul Street. In addition, on-street parking will now be allowed on Demers Lane.
- The council selected the South Berwick Food Pantry as its Spirit of America Foundation winner. The pantry will be honored at the 2027 annual Town Meeting next spring.
- Fair Tide and Mainspring of Kittery, a social services collective that serves the Seacoast area, was selected by the council to administer South Berwick’s General Assistance program.
- The council scheduled a budget listening session for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15 in the Community Center. This session will address protocols for the budget process, such as adding personnel benefits to departmental calculations.
- The council agreed to contact artists who expressed interest in completing a mural in the downtown business district. Artists will be informed that the mural likely will be done at the former South Berwick Pharmacy instead of the Odd Fellows building, previously chosen for a mural site until the building owner backed off.
