The Town Council last week awarded $15,000 in two separate grants to Main Street businesses

The council awarded a $10,000 facade grant to Seasonal Maine gift shop, which will be opening at 275 Main St. The funding, which comes from downtown tax increment financing, or TIF, revenue, will cover electrical upgrades, driveway replacement, painting and new flooring, among other improvements, according to the application. The business specializes in Maine-themed gifts.

The council also approved $5,000 from TIF funds for Catbird Restaurant on Main Street. Among other improvements, this will pay for a bar freezer and a crushed ice machine for the restaurant, according to the application.

In addition, the council approved a $10,000 state Housing Opportunity Program Municipal Ordinance Development Grant to be used to support municipal ordinance development activities such as aligning town ordinances with LD 1829, the new state law mandating more housing density in Maine communities.
