Police logs for Jan. 12 through Jan. 25 list 10 motor vehicle accidents, with 13 court summonses issued and two arrests made during 204 vehicle stops.
According to Deputy Chief Scott Stephens, police arrested a 27-year-old male from East Kingston on Jan. 14, 5:40 p.m. on Dover Eliot Road on a warrant for failure to appear for a criminal speed charge (30 mph or more over the speed limit). On Jan. 15 at 6:26 a.m., a 20-year-old male from Milton, N.H., was arrested and charged with operating after suspension near Main and Portland streets.
Another log item on Jan. 22 at 10:52 a.m. labeled “FBI-NICS” (National Instant Criminal Background Check System) at the South Berwick Police Department, was based on a notification from the FBI that a resident attempted to purchase a firearm and was denied, Stephens said. The background check system, created by the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993, is designed to block firearm sales to people prohibited under the act.
