Senior Master Sgt. Jay Siudut of South Berwick, a member of the Air National Guard, will be guest speaker at this year’s Veteran’s Day observance scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday in South Berwick Town Hall.
Siudut, a native of Berwick, is assigned to Pease Air Force Base with the Air National Guard’s 157th Air Refueling Wing.
“Unlike Memorial Day, Veteran’s Day pays tribute all American veterans, living or dead, but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during both war and peace time,” said Jeff Chase, commander of South Berwick Memorial Post 5744 VFW.
Among the guests invited to the ceremony are Town Manager Tim Pellerin, Town Councilors, members of the Fire and Police departments, representatives of the USS Washington stationed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Marshwood Great Works and Middle School students, and local scout troops. The public is also invited.
Tuesday’s ceremony will be the final event in a series of activities the past week aimed at honoring the community’s veterans, Chase said.
Marshwood Great Works School welcomed veterans for breakfast Thursday, giving students an opportunity to talk with the veterans.
Marshwood Middle School on Friday continued a decades-long tradition of hosting an assembly honoring veterans and first responders, followed by lunch and discussions with students.
This Saturday, Nov. 8, has been designated Poppy Day, weather permitting, Chase said.
“Because we’ll be outdoors, selling poppies to drivers along Main Street, we’ll postpone until a later date if the weather is bad,” he added. Funds raised by the poppy sales benefit the Veterans Relief Fund administered by the local VFW.
