State Rep. Tiffany Roberts (D), of South Berwick, announced this week that she is running for the U.S. House of Representatives in the First Congressional District, the seat held for eight terms by U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree (D), of North Haven.
Roberts, who has been in the Maine Legislature since 2015, filed her papers this week for the June 2026 primary election and formally launched the campaign at a gathering Wednesday evening at South Berwick Town Hall..
“This isn’t a campaign against anyone,” Roberts told a crowd of about 30 people in the auditorium. “It’s a campaign for something – for Maine’s future, for the next generation, for a government that listens first and acts second.”
Roberts’ husband, former South Berwick town councilor Jeff Minihan, introduced Roberts at the event. Minihan, who did not run for reelection to the council this fall, will be Roberts’ campaign director.
The announcement in Town Hall drew media coverage from television Channels 8 and 6 in Portland. Pingree has not faced a primary battle since she was elected in 2009.
“This district should have a choice, not just one name on the ballot,” Roberts told the audience.
Roberts said she will begin a “Six Counties in Six Weeks” tour this week, “listening, holding town halls, walking shop floors, and sitting around kitchen tables.”
