A 45-year old male who reportedly ran from the scene after his vehicle crashed into a tree near Young and Main streets at 1:35 a.m. Feb. 7. was found and charged with “leaving the scene of a property damage accident and failure to notify police by quickest means,” according to Lt. Scott Stephens.
The resident of Portsmouth, N.H., was also charged with “theft by unauthorized taking and violating conditions of release,” both alleged to have occurred in separate incidents, Stephens said.
Additional arrests reported in the Jan. 29-Feb. 10 police log included an arrest on Main Street at 8:37 a.m. Feb. 3, when a 36-year-old male from South Berwick was charged with “violation of protection order.” Subsequent calls under the same arrest number were listed as “follow up investigations” that began at 12:54 p.m. at Abby Chic on Main Street; at 1:06 p.m. and 2 p.m. at the Stage House Inn and Dufour Restaurant on Main Street; and at 2:01 p.m. at Abby Chic. Stephens did not respond to a request last week for more information about the arrest.
Two other arrests involved a 23-year-old male from Somersworth, N.H., charged with operating without a valid license at 6:16 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Police Department, and a 43-year-old male from South Berwick charged with trespassing at 9:55 a.m. Jan. 28 on Witchtrot Road.
A burglary from a motor vehicle was listed at 5:59 a.m. Jan. 31 in Woodland Hills. Stephens said he could not provide additional information because the case is still open.
A report of stolen catalytic converters posted on the South Berwick Police Department’s Facebook page on Feb.10 warned residents to call 911 if they noticed a vehicle double-parked on the street or heard the sound of metal being cut. The original post was from the Police Department in Berwick, where four thefts of catalytic converters had occurred. Stephens offered no additional comment related to such thefts in South Berwick.
