The Town Council will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, to allow residents to offer input on the fate of Town Hall, either renovating the current building or building a new town hall.

The hearing, to be held in the town hall auditorium, follows a May 23 presentation by Port City Architects of Portland, hired by the town to assess the condition of the 97-year-old building.

All residents are “strongly encouraged” to attend the hearing in person, according to the announcement of the hearing on the town website. Comments will not be taken via Zoom, but residents who cannot attend in person are urged to submit comments to councilors@sbmaine.us.

People submitting comments via email are asked to include in the subject line their last name, first name and “6/28 Public Hearing Comments.” Their local address should be included in the body of the email.

Name and address are also required for any in-person comments.

All email comments will be reviewed by the Town Council and compiled along with in-person comments, according to the notice.

Editor’s note: Due to a technical glitch, the email address cited above for comments on the future of Town Hall was not operational until this morning. According to town staff, emails to the Town Council that previously were not accepted can be re-sent and will go through.
