A new store on Main Street will focus on e-commerce with limited retail next year.
Seasonal Maine, owned by Ken Tapscott, will operate at 275 Main St. in the space formerly occupied by The Catered Event, the last empty spot in the Business Block downtown.
Tapscott asked the Planning Board at the July 15 meeting for a waiver of the major site plan review requirement. A change in use from a food service business to online retail would normally prompt a review, but the board decided there was no need for it since Seasonal Maine would have a similar affect on public safety and traffic as the previous business.
The board voted unanimously that no waiver was needed and Tapscott could move ahead with his plans and open full retail without coming back before the board for further approval.
The business hopes to add walk-in retail in the spring of 2027, Tapscott said.
Seasonal Maine is an online store selling local products and is associated with New England Artisan LLC.
The downtown currently has an open commercial space at 10 Portland St. where the tattoo shop used to be at the busy Route 4-Route 236 intersection in the middle of town.
