The co-owner of a new seasonal downtown restaurant was named to the Zoning Board of Appeals by the Town Council last week, filling a vacant seat for a term that expires on June 30.
Sam Flinkstrom, a Marshwood High alum, is co-owner with his wife Roxanne Poulin of Happy Valley Beer & Wine Garden, which opened on Main Street last summer. Flinkstrom appeared many times last year before various town boards, including the ZBA, amid confusion and controversy surrounding the establishment’s approval process.
The vote to confirm Flinkstrom’s appointment was 4-0 with one abstention. Council Chair Mallory Cook declined to vote because she was not present at his interview. Flinkstrom said he hopes to continue on the board after the end of June.
