The school board last week began discussion of installing turf at the Marshwood High School stadium.
The issue will be explored in greater detail at the board’s next meeting July 12, when a committee assembled by Athletic Director Rich Buzzell will present preliminary findings on the potential project’s pros and cons.
“This is going to be one of those issues that there’s going to be people all over the board on,” Superintendent John Caverly said at the June 21 meeting, citing financial, environmental, and maintenance requirements as important considerations.
After hearing the committee’s findings in July, the board will consider next steps, including possibly hiring civil engineers to determine the feasibility of turf at the stadium, the full scope of the work, and the cost.
The issue is one that will ultimately need to go before the community for funding, Caverly said, adding that at this juncture the board is “miles away” from that step.
