The annual Memorial Day service, conducted by South Berwick Memorial Post 5744 Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 29, at the All-Wars Memorial at Portland Street and Agamenticus Road, following a parade led by the Marshwood High School Marching Band.
Guest speaker will be Dr. Raymond Gamble, a 1979 graduate of West Point Academy and a history teacher at Portsmouth Christian Academy. While on active duty, Gamble earned a PhD in history at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and was on the faculty at West Point. VFW Post 5744 Commander Jeffery Chase will be the master of ceremonies.
The day’s commemorative events begin at 10:30 a.m. at Central School with a bicycle decorating contest. At 10:45 the veterans will cross the street to Town Hall, where they will place a wreath at the Vietnam Memorial.
The parade will line up at Central School at 11:15 and step off toward the All-Wars Memorial at 11:20 for the 11:30 service.
