This short course blends engaging classroom lessons on local geology with guided field trips where you’ll explore landscapes firsthand and see Earth’s history come alive. This course will be divided up into 3 separate\, stand-alone sessions. Come to one or all.\n\nMarch 28\, 9:30am to noon: Introduction to basic geology focusing on southwestern Maine.  We will meet in the GWRLT Office at Beach Plum Farm for a talk by local geologist/retired science teacher\, Don Wasson.  He will go over basic geology and focus on interesting geological features that can be found in southwestern Maine. The majority of this session will be inside and will be the most academic of the 3 sessions.\n\n April 4\, 9:30am to noon:  Focus on igneous rock formations:  Meet at the parking lot at Nubble Lighthouse\, York. \n\n April 11\, 9:30am to noon: Focus on metamorphic rock formations:  We will meet at Beach Plum Farm prior to carpooling to the metamorphic rock formations in Ogunquit.

Located on Hubbard Road\, approximately 4.3 miles north from Berwick center.\n\nThis 130-acre preserve was transferred to GWRLT in 2004 from the Tuckahoe Turf Farm and has been a key site of wetland and forest preservation. Tuckahoe Preserve contains approximately 6\,200 linear feet of frontage along the Salmon Falls River and protects the dynamic riparian habitat for wildlife. Abutting our Keay Brook Preserve\, Tuckahoe Preserve offers a 1-mile lollipop trail through a mixture of open grasslands\, early successional forest\, and older growth trees.\n\nTerrain: flat—great for an XC Ski! DESCRIPTION:Join Master Gardener\, Ginger Laurits at Great Works Regional Land Trust’s Beach Plum Farm for a workshop on starting native plants from seed. We will cover the fundamentals of native plants; their differences from and comparative advantages to the annual vegetable seeds we usually grow; how to start\, grow and care for them from seed; and much more!\n\nGinger Laurits is a proud GWRLT member and York County Master Gardener Volunteer who helps maintain the Native Plant Gardens at the Wells Reserve at Laudholm. She is also a seed volunteer for Wild Seed Project and has grown many native plants from seed for her home garden and the Laudholm Native Plant Border.
