Just finished your hike to the top of Powder House Hill? Or perhaps it’s wintertime and you are watching your kids ski or slide down the hill.

Either way, there are now comfortable Adirondack chairs at the top and the bottom of the hill for those who want to pause to rest there.

The installation of 20 chairs around the downtown area are part of the Downtown Revitalization Plan “to create a place to pause and appreciate our wonderful town,” according to Economic Development Director DeCarlo Brown.

Chairs also have been placed on the lawn in front of Town Hall, on the sidewalk near Odd Fellows Tavern, beside the Public Library and at the Shoetown Playground, Brown said. All the chairs are securely chained to prevent them being moved from their locations.

Tax Increment Financing funds were used to pay for the $3,000 cost of purchasing and installing the chairs, Brown said. TIF funds are taxes paid by businesses in designated districts of town that would otherwise go to the state but are instead paid to the town.

“We will see how well the chairs are utilized,” Brown said, “and if there are other spots where people may want to sit for a while, we’ll consider adding more chairs.”
