Former Town Councilor Jessica Cyr, who stepped down to take a town manager job in northern New Hampshire, was given a plaque by the council honoring her work for the town.
“I’ve learned a lot from you in the years we’ve been working together,” said Councilor John James in presenting Cyr with the plaque at the council meeting July 9. “And I’ve always been incredibly impressed with your work ethic.”
The plaque praised Cyr for her “dedicated service to the Town of South Berwick” through work on numerous municipal projects, including the Comprehensive Plan Committee and chairmanship of the Downtown Revitalization Plan Advisory Committee.
“This has been an absolute, great opportunity,” said Cyr, whose last day as a councilor was Tuesday. “Being on the Town Council has given me a real appreciation of our community.”
Cyr will be starting as town manager in Lancaster, NH, on July 15, according to the town’s website.
Cyr’s council seat will remain vacant until the Nov. 5 election, according to Town Clerk Tyanne Giambusso. Under the town charter, when a vacancy occurs less than six months prior to the next regular municipal election, the town is not required to hold a special election for the unexpired portion of the term.
Nomination papers will be available at the clerk’s office as of July 29, and are due back no later than noon Sept. 6, Giambusso said. Those running for a council seat must collect at least 25 signatures from local residents to qualify for a place on the ballot.
