The superintendent of schools has proposed creating an athletic Hall of Fame at Marshwood High School to encourage school alumni to become more involved there.

“This is a personal issue for me. I want to make sure we do a better job of activating our alumni,” said Superintendent John Caverly at a recent meeting of the RSU 35 Board of Directors.

The goal is to start accepting applications to the Hall of Fame by next January and to announce the inaugural class by homecoming weekend of 2024, Caverly said. The details of the process are still being worked out, he said.

Eventually, he envisions creating an educator Hall of Fame as an additional way to activate alumni. This would honor educators and others who have made a significant impact on students in the district.

Caverly said he is hoping to see the Hall of Fame generate big community events that would draw alumni and help raise funds for an alumni fund.
